Description

FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is used to assess the causes and consequences of a failure. The risk is determined with regard to the probability of occurrence, the probability of detection of the failure before the damage occurs and its significance. Based on this, measures for improving the product are derived.

Procedure

  1. Determine possible misbehaviour of the product
  2. Identify possible causes and effects of the misbehaviour
  3. Assess the misbehaviour in terms of probability of occurrence (A), probability of detection (E) and significance (B) on a scale of 1-10
  4. Multiply the three factors A, E and B into a risk priority number (RPN)
  5. Discuss the results and derive measures to improve the product
  6. Carry out the assessment steps again
